The 2022 Global Health and Welfare Forum in Taiwan wrapped up Oct. 31 in Taipei City, spotlighting the government’s commitment to expanding medical collaboration and information sharing with countries around the world.
Jointly organized by the Ministries of Health and Welfare and Foreign Affairs as well as the Health Promotion Administration under the MOHW, the two-day event was themed One Health—Advancing Health and Well-being for All.
A total of 46 experts and officials from countries, including Australia, Belize, Canada, Eswatini, Guatemala, Japan, Tuvalu, the U.K. and the U.S. took part in Taipei, while over 1,000 individuals joined in virtually, discussing key issues such as international cooperation, environmental sustainability and public health.
According to the MOHW, the forum featured discussion of the One Health concept, specifically how humans can maintain the balance of our ecosystems, as well as insights into public health challenges posed by threats such as climate change and emerging and noncommunicable diseases.
Keynote speakers included former Vice President Chen Chien-jen; Liette Vasseur, professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Canada’s Brock University; and Martin McKee, professor of European Public Health at the U.K.’s London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and president of the British Medical Association.
First launched in 2005, the annual forum gathers health researchers, policymakers and practitioners to share ideas and experiences on tackling global wellness challenges.
