A total of ten productions from Taiwan are being screened at the London East Asia Film Festival underway until Oct. 30, according to the Ministry of Culture.
The Taiwan lineup for the 2022 LEAFF includes crime dramas “Fantasy·World” directed by Freddy Tang Fu-jui, “Goddamned Asura” by Lou Yi-an, and “The Abandoned” by Tseng Ying-ting.
Other Taiwan films in this year’s edition are the documentaries “Far Away Eyes” by Wang Chun-hong and “Salute” by Yao Hung-I, romance comedy “Mama Boy” by Arvin Chen, as well as thriller “The Funeral” by Shen Dan-Quei.
A highlight of the LEAFF is a focus on the work of Taiwan cinematographers for the first time, the MOC said, adding that a selection of classic titles will be screened under the strand “Filmmaker Focus: Cinematographer Mark Lee” to spotlight his life and work.
According to the MOC, Lee is a world-acclaimed Taiwan cinematographer, with numerous awards to his credit, including the Grand Technical Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, and others.
Established in 2015, the festival champions growing collaboration in East Asian filmmaking from over 13 countries like Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. Its vision is to bring a much wider and more eclectic program of films to show the richness and diversity of the region.
