Taiwan, UK ink working arrangement on aviation safety
2022/10/20
A bilateral arrangement for aviation safety promotion was concluded by Taiwan and the U.K. Oct. 18, underscoring the commitment of the two sides to expanding related exchanges across the board.
Signed by Lin Kuo-shian, director-general of Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration, and Richard Moriarty, head of the U.K. Civil Aviation Authority, the pact recognizes post-Brexit era certification of aviation products and standards in both countries as aviation oversight authority moved from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency to the U.K. CAA.
Ten video conferences were held over nearly two years of talks between Taiwan’s CAA and the U.K. CAA, Lin said. Aviation authorities in Taipei and London completed mutual inspections of each other’s aviation production safety standards, regulations and procedures and agreed on mutual acceptance of aviation product certification, he added.
In addition, Taiwan’s CAA has secured the U.K. CAA’s recognition of the country’s Technical Standard Order Approval, Lin said. The recognition ensures locally made aviation products avoid repeated inspections for exports to the U.K. and improves their competitiveness.
The bilateral arrangement will facilitate exchanges in the development of aviation products and related components, the Taiwan’s CAA said. Closer bilateral cooperation in aviation safety and support for the aviation industry will result, the administration added.
