MOFA Minister Wu congratulates new St. Kitts and Nevis PM Terrance Drew

Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu called new St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Terrance Drew on behalf of President Tsai Ing-wen, Aug. 15 to congratulate him on winning the Caribbean ally’s general election.
Taiwan and St. Kitts and Nevis have a long-standing friendship, Wu said. The government will continue working with the Caribbean ally under Drew’s leadership to implement mutually beneficial cooperation aimed at further advancing the well-being of the people, he added.
Wu also thanked the government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis for their long-term backing for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations. It is sincerely hoped that Drew will continue to voice his support in the global arena, he said and extended an invitation to visit the country to strengthen bilateral ties.
In response, Drew expressed his gratitude for Taiwan’s assistance in additional development of St. Kitts and Nevis’ national infrastructure and strengthened response to COVID-19. Drew pledged to boost bilateral collaboration in education, public health, women’s empowerment and post-pandemic economic recovery to deepen the two sides’ relations during his term.
According to the MOFA, Taiwan and St. Kitts and Nevis share a long-standing official relationship dating back to 1983 when the Commonwealth country gained independence from the U.K. Bilateral ties have gone from strength to strength over the past 39 years and will continue to flourish.
