MOFA welcomes upcoming visit by CABEI Executive President Dante Mossi

2022/07/27

The upcoming visit to Taiwan of a six-member delegation led by Central American Bank for Economic Integration Executive President Dante Mossi is warmly welcomed by the government and people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said July 26.

From July 31 to Aug. 5, Mossi will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and Premier Su Tseng-chang and receive the Order of Brilliant Star with Purple Grand Cordon from MOFA Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu. He is also expected to ink a financial service and credit assurance cooperation agreement concerning a project to promote economic recovery and women’s empowerment in Latin America and the Caribbean in the post-pandemic era with Wu, who will sign on behalf of Taiwan’s foremost foreign aid organization International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF).

Other highlights of the itinerary include activities celebrating the first anniversary of the CABEI country office’s establishment in Taiwan and the 30th anniversary of the country’s inclusion in the bank, as well as visits to financial institutions, leading enterprises, and economic and cultural facilities.

The delegation’s trip follows Mossi’s visit to Taiwan in 2019 and the launch of CABEI’s country office in Taipei City last July, the MOFA said, adding that it demonstrates the great importance the bank attaches to Taiwan’s financial market and the deepening partnership between the two sides.

Taiwan joined CABEI in 1992 as one of the bank’s first extraregional partners. Collaboration focuses on poverty reduction via programs spanning agriculture, education, food security, and micro, small and medium enterprises.

One example is the Taiwan-CABEI Partnership Trust Fund set up last November. The five-year initiative is helping ramp up sustainable socioeconomic development in Central America allies including Belize, Guatemala and Honduras.
