Keisuke Suzuki, a member of Japan’s House of Representatives, attended the Ketagalan Forum—2022 Indo-Pacific Security Dialogue July 26 as part of a three-day visit to Taiwan.
Arriving the day before, Suzuki is making his 10th trip to Taiwan in an effort to further strengthen the special friendship between the East Asian neighbors. His itinerary includes an audience with President Tsai Ing-wen and meetings with Vice President Lai Ching-te, Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu and Su Jia-chyuan, chairperson of the Taiwan-Japan Relations Association.
Another highlight is a visit to pay his respects at the grave of former President Lee Teng-hui, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Suzuki is a staunch supporter of Taiwan, the MOFA said, citing his contributions in deepening two-way ties and participation in the Taiwan-U.S.-Japan Trilateral Indo-Pacific Security Dialogue and Open Parliament Forum.
A former director of the Liberal Democratic Party’s Youth Division, Suzuki previously served as state minister of Japan’s Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the MOFA said.
Taiwan and Japan share the universal values of freedom, democracy, respect for human rights and rule of law, the ministry said, adding that Suzuki’s trip spotlights the robust health of exchanges between the like-minded partners.
In a tweet on the MOFA’s official account, the ministry said “We welcome @SuzukiKeisukeMP of #Japan’s House of Representatives to #Taiwan. It’s great to have another strong supporter of the country joining the Ketagalan Forum—2022 #IndoPacific Security Dialogue. All the best to our good friend for the important event & his 3-day visit!”
