Taiwan eases entry restrictions for overseas students

2022/07/20

More students from abroad will be allowed to enter Taiwan under new rules to help promote youth exchanges while safeguarding public health, the Ministry of Education said July 16.

According to the MOE, under the new entry rules, foreign students (excluding those from Hong Kong and Macao) in exchange programs between their schools and local institutes can enter the country starting Aug. 1.

Overseas language study students (including those from Hong Kong and Macau) on Mandarin study programs of at least two months have been allowed to enter the country since July 15.

All students need to undergo the same quarantine as other arrivals, that is, stay isolated for three days at designated facilities, followed by four days of self-heath monitoring, the MOE added.

Under existing border control, several other categories of international students can enter Taiwan. These include recipients of scholarships provided by the Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs, as well as other students pursuing formal academic degrees.
