Taiwan raises weekly arrivals cap, prepares to ease pre-entry PCR requirement
2022/07/13
Taiwan increased the weekly cap of arrivals to 40,000 beginning July 7 and will soon ease pre-entry COVID-19 test requirements, according to the Cabinet-level Central Epidemic Command Center.
The latter changes, set to take effect from midnight July 14, 2022, exempt ROC (Taiwan) nationals, Alien Resident Certificate holders and transit passengers from providing a negative COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction test result obtained within two days of their scheduled flight, the CECC said.
Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 abroad, however, must wait over seven days from the specimen collection date before boarding a flight to Taiwan in order to ensure safety on the flight and facilitate epidemic prevention efforts in the community, the center added.
Upon landing, all passengers will continue to have saliva samples collected to conduct a PCR test, the CECC said. Two rapid test home kits will be provided to those aged two and above before they head to their planned quarantine location, one for if symptoms appear during quarantine and one for the last day of quarantine, the center added.
In addition to taking quarantine taxis, travelers can get picked up at the airport by family members, friends, or vehicles arranged through their companies or organizations as long as disease prevention protocols are followed, the CECC said.
According to the CECC, requirements regarding quarantine duration, location and testing, as well as home quarantine and the self-initiated epidemic prevention period for arrivals remain unchanged.
Latest CECC statistics confirm 4,132,429 COVID-19 cases and 7,780 deaths in Taiwan.
