Taiwan attends European Civil Protection Forum in Brussels

A Taiwan delegation attended the European Civil Protection Forum June 28 in Brussels, Belgium, underscoring the government’s commitment to working with like-minded partners to advance digital means for disaster prevention and response, according to the Executive Yuan.
 
The European gathering of practitioners and decision-makers in the field of civil protection discusses how to protect citizens and reduce risks and threats through regional cooperation in the face of major challenges such as natural disasters caused by climate change, as well as war and conflict.
 
Led by Wang Yi-wen, deputy chief of the Cabinet’s Office of Disaster Management, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delegation shared the country’s success stories and best practice on preparedness during the two-day event. A Taiwan booth was also set up to demonstrate VR simulation training and other achievements, the EY said.
 
According to the EY, Taiwan uses innovative digital applications for disaster prevention and management. These include public warning systems, evacuation mechanisms and digital virtual reality simulation training systems.
 
Participation in the forum paves the way for deeper exchange in disaster management with countries across Europe. It also showcases Taiwan’s capabilities and expertise in disaster prevention to EU member states, the EY said.
 
Themed “Towards faster, greener and smarter emergency management,” the seventh edition of the forum involved 800-plus experts and officials from over 50 countries this year.
