25 Taiwan illustrations tour Italy
2022/07/01
An exhibit of 25 creations by eight Taiwan illustrators is on tour in Italy as part of government soft power initiatives, bringing the country’s artists to a global audience, the Ministry of Culture said June 27.
Named the Taiwan on Tour project, it is jointly sponsored by the MOC and Milan-based Associazione Culturale Noi Altri, with works featured at Illustri Festival in Vicenza June 25-26. The exhibit will take part in Graphic Days in Torino Sept. 17-18, Fruit Exhibition in Bologna Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 and Book City in Milan Nov. 16-20, the ministry said.
The MOC said that among the featured artists, Lin Lian-en won the BolognaRagazzi Award in 2021 with “Home,” which transports readers into a Taiwan community with all its sights, sounds, and characters; Chen Chu-li was a winner in the U.K. V&A Illustration Award and U.S. 3x3 Illustration Show; and Chen Pei-hsiu was nominated twice for the young talent award in the Angouleme International Comics Festival in France.
Through their vision, the artists illustrate daily life in Taiwan and its diverse and inclusive culture, the MOC said. The exhibit will travel nearly 2,000 kilometers throughout Italy in a vintage 1979 Fiat 238 van decorated with images in blue, red and white representing Taiwan.
Stationery supplies and accessories from Taiwan entrepreneurs will also be on display alongside the artwork to promote the country’s cultural and creative sector, the MOC said.
