President Tsai Ing-wen presented the national flag to Team Taiwan for the 2022 World Games June 27 in Taipei City, urging the athletes to go for gold while representing the country with passion and pride.
Taiwan’s women’s tug of war team has won four consecutive gold medals since the 2005 Games, Tsai said. Equally impressive are the powerlifting squad with medals in each edition since 1993 and the korfball representation, ranked third in the world and first in Asia, with silver at the last event in Poland, she added.
It is sincerely hoped this run of strong performances will continue at the Games in Birmingham, Alabama, Tsai said while presenting the national flag to Team Taiwan during a special ceremony. Attendees included Minister of Education Pan Wen-chung, Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee President Lin Hong-dow, leader of the country’s delegation for the July 7 to 17 event, and athletes, coaches and support staff.
According to the Sports Administration under the Ministry of Education, 69 Taiwan athletes will contest 14 sports at the games. These are billiards, bowling, drone racing, fin swimming, jujitsu, korfball, men’s canoe polo, powerlifting, roller sport, sumo, water ski and wakeboard, women’s softball, women’s tug of war and wushu.
