Deputy Foreign Minister Harry Ho-jen Tseng hosted a banquet for a delegation led by Lithuanian Vice Minister of Agriculture Egidijus Giedraitis June 24 in Taipei City, reaffirming government commitment to deepening the already robust bilateral relationship, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The group’s visit follows that of the economic and trade delegation led by Vice Minister of the Economy and Innovation Jovita Neliupsiene earlier this month and demonstrated the close bond between the like-minded partners, Tseng said.
Despite economic coercion from China, Lithuania has never wavered in its determination to develop cooperative ties with Taiwan, the deputy minister said, adding that the precious friendship is sincerely appreciated by the government and people.
According to Tseng, Lithuanian products like beverages and chocolate are becoming increasingly popular among local consumers. The latest visit is sure to bring bilateral agricultural cooperation to new heights as the two partners explore business opportunities for the benefit of the people on both sides, he said.
In response, Giedraitis thanked the MOFA for its warm hospitality. His government is looking forward to diversifying the country’s exports and is committed to expanding cooperation with Taiwan in key sectors such as dairy, meat and wheat, he said.
Arriving June 22, the group was in the country on a three-day fact-finding trade tour. The group’s agenda included taking part in the 2022 Food Taipei Mega Show and meeting with officials from the Council of Agriculture and Ministry of Health and Welfare, the MOFA said.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said “Shared belief in the power of free & fair trade to #DefendDemocracy & promote prosperity was toasted with gusto at the banquet held by Deputy Minister Tseng for Vice Minister Giedraitis & his #Agriculture delegation. We thank our #Lithuania friends for the top #Taiwan visit!”
