An economic and trade delegation from Lithuania toured state-backed Industrial Technology Research Institute June 14 in northern Taiwan’s Hsinchu County in an effort to get up to speed on collaborative opportunities available to the two sides.
Led by Jovita Neliupsiene, vice minister of economy and innovation, the delegation received a comprehensive briefing on key developments pertaining to the semiconductor industry. Other participants included Chen Chern-chyi, deputy minister of economic affairs, and Eric Jiun-yaw Huang, head of The Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania.
The institute will share semiconductor know-how enabling Lithuania to establish manufacturing capacity, ITRI said, adding that Taiwan will gain access to the EU member state’s advanced laser technologies for use in a variety of applications.
ITRI President Edwin Liu said Taiwan is a world leader in semiconductors. Add Lithuania’s competitive edge in lasers to the mix, and the two sides are poised to strike up a complementary partnership of global proportions, he added.
The Lithuania delegation’s tour is the first at a vice-ministerial level or higher since the opening of Taiwan’s representative office in November 2021, the ITRI said. It follows on from the first economic dialogue between Taiwan and Lithuania co-chaired by Chen and Neliupsiene in Vilnius last month, the institute added.
ITRI, founded in 1973, fosters innovation-driven sectors in Taiwan with a focus on quality health, smart cities and sustainable development. It has helped incubate over 270 high-tech companies, including global integrated circuit powerhouse Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd.
