Deputy MOFA Minister Tseng hosts banquet for Lithuania trade delegation

2022/06/16

Deputy Foreign Minister Harry Ho-jen Tseng hosted a welcome banquet for a trade delegation led by Lithuanian Vice Minister of the Economy and Innovation Jovita Neliupsiene June 14 in Taipei City, reaffirming government commitment to deepening the already robust bilateral relationship, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Taiwan and Lithuania share the values of freedom, democracy and respect for human rights, with both sides keen to build even stronger trade and economic ties, Tseng said.

Great progress has been made in efforts to expand relations in recent years, Tseng said, citing the six memoranda of understanding concluded in the EU member state during the visit by a Taiwan trade delegation last October, as well as the inaugural economic dialogue held last month in Vilnius.

Despite economic coercion it faces, the government of Lithuania has never wavered in its determination to develop cooperative ties with Taiwan, the deputy minister said. Such staunch support is greatly appreciated by the government and people, he added.

In response, Neliupsiene said history has shown that true partnership is built on shared values. Her government looks forward to expanding cooperation with Taiwan going forward.

Arriving June 12, the 10-member group is in the country on a four-day fact-finding trade tour. The group’s agenda includes meetings with officials from Taiwan’s economic and trade ministries and agencies, as well as visits to companies in key industries.

In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said “Deputy Minister Tseng hosted a banquet for @Jovita_Pra & her delegation. Discussions revolved around growing trade & investment exchanges based on shared values, innovation & harnessing the potential of technological transformation. #Taiwan-#Lithuania ties are steaming head!”
