Lithuanian economic and tech delegation arrives in Taiwan

A delegation of economic officials and technology business representatives from Lithuania arrived on a four-day visit June 12 at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Led by Jovita Neliupsiene, vice minister of the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, the 10-member group is set to meet officials from Taiwan’s economic and trade ministries and agencies. Members will also visit companies in key industries to boost cooperation on trade promotion, investment and supply chain security.
The MOFA said this is the first visit made by a Lithuanian official at the vice minister-level since the establishment of Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania last November. It follows the visit to the EU member state last October of a group led by National Development Council Minister Kung Ming-hsin and the subsequent visit of a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Chen Chern-chyi in May, the ministry added.
The MOFA said that the visit demonstrates the two sides’ shared commitment to friendship and expanded exchanges in areas spanning economy and trade. It also heralds a new chapter for regular high-level officials’ visits between the two governments, it added.
Taiwan and Lithuania share universal values of freedom, democracy and respect for human rights, the MOFA said, adding that in the face of authoritarian expansion undermining rules-based international order, only through the global democratic community’s unity and solidarity can the world safeguard these values.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said “Deputy Minister Tseng extended the warmest of welcomes to @Jovita_Pra & her delegation. We wish the vice minister of economy & innovation a productive 4-day visit aimed at boosting #Taiwan-#Lithuania cooperation in related areas while promoting free & open trade & investment.”
