France senatorial delegation arrives in Taiwan

2022/06/09

A delegation of cross-party senators from France arrived on a six-day visit June 8 at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Led by Joel Guerriau, vice chair of the Senate’s Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces Committee and Taiwan Friendship Group, the group comprises Vincent Eble, Sylvie Goy-Chavent, Dany Wattebled and Ludovic Haye.

Key events on the delegation’s itinerary include an audience with President Tsai Ing-wen, as well as meetings with Premier Su Tseng-chang, Legislative Yuan President You Si-kun, National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo and Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu.

The MOFA said the delegation is the third in 12 months from the French Parliament to travel to Taiwan following those in December and October last year. It underscores a shared commitment to deepen friendship and expand exchanges across the board, the ministry added.

Guerriau, making his second Taiwan visit, is a true friend of the country who consistently contributes to advancing bilateral relations, the MOFA said. The resolution he proposed with TFG Chair Sen. Alain Richard on supporting Taiwan’s international participation made a milestone after its unanimous adoption by the Senate in May 2021, the ministry added.

In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the ministry said “Thumbs-up to #Taiwan-#France ties! Deputy Minister Tseng extended the heartiest of welcomes to @Joel_Guerriau & his cross-party @Senat delegation of @VincentEBLE, @SGoyChavent, @DanyWattebled & @ludovichaye. We wish our friends a highly productive & rewarding 6-day visit.”
