GCTF conference on ending gender-based violence staged in Taipei

A conference on ending gender-based violence was held by Taiwan and seven foreign representative offices under the Global Cooperation and Training Framework May 24-25 in Taipei City, underscoring the commitment of like-minded partners to advancing gender equality and human rights protection.
 
Jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Gender Equality under the Executive Yuan and representative offices of Australia, Canada, European Union, Israel, Japan, U.K. and U.S., the event focused on sharing good governance on policymaking and practices.
 
According to the MOFA, around 100 experts, officials and representatives from home and 13 foreign representative offices took part in the physical event, with over 200 participants from 22 countries in the Asia Pacific, Africa, Europe, Latin America and West Asia taking part via video link.
 
During his opening remarks, Premier Su Tseng-chang said COVID-19 and cyber bullying have further exposed the vulnerability of girls, women and the LBTGQ community to gender-based violence. This event reaffirms the government’s determination to work with its global partners to tackle this challenge.
 
Speaking on behalf of foreign missions co-organizing the event, Australian Office Taipei Rep. Jenny Bloomfield commended Taiwan for its achievements in gender equality and called for an end to all forms of gender-based violence.
 
According to the MOFA, Jessica Stern, U.S. special envoy to advance the human rights of LBTGQ+ persons, Stella Ronner-Grubacic, ambassador for gender and diversity of the European External Action Service, and Christine Clarke, Australian ambassador for women and girls, all delivered remarks via video link.
 
Launched in June 2015, the GCTF has hosted nearly 50 workshops with over 4,000 experts, officials and representatives from 100 plus countries and territories in response to emerging global challenges, including disaster relief, energy security, media literacy, public health and women’s empowerment.
