Taiwan congratulates France President Macron on reelection

The government of Taiwan congratulates France President Emmanuel Macron on his reelection, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs April 25.
Macron of the La Republique En Marche party defeated Marine Le Pen of the National Rally party in the second round of voting in France’s presidential election the previous day.
Under Macron’s administration, Taiwan and France have continued to strengthen exchanges in various fields, the MOFA said. This is evidenced by Taiwan’s establishment of a representative office in Aix-en-Provence and its first-ever inclusion in the latest version of France’s Indo-Pacific Strategy released earlier this year, the ministry added.
According to the MOFA, resolutions backing Taiwan’s international participation were adopted by the French Senate and National Assembly in 2021. Maintaining the status quo in the Taiwan Strait is high on the French government’s agenda, the ministry added, citing statements issued by the Group of Seven industrialized nations and attendees of the France-Australia Foreign and Defense 2+2 Ministerial Consultations and the France-Japan Foreign and Defense Ministers’ Meeting.
Taiwan and France are expected to continue cooperation across a broad spectrum of areas during Macron’s second term, the MOFA said, adding that the two sides’ relationship is built on a foundation of shared values such as freedom, democracy, and respect for human rights and the rule of law.
As like-minded partners, both countries are committed to building a more peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific, the MOFA said.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the ministry said “Congratulations to @EmmanuelMacron on reelection as president. #Taiwan looks forward to continuing to work with #France in strengthening bilateral relations, defending shared values, & maintaining peace & stability in the Taiwan Strait & #IndoPacific.”
