2022/04/19

A flag raising ceremony aboard a cutter from Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration wrapped up the country’s participation in the Our Ocean Conference in Pacific ally Palau, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs April 16.

Presided over by Environmental Protection Administration Minister Chang Tzi-chin and Palau’s Minister of Public Infrastructure and Industries Charles Obichang, the event involved MOFA Deputy Minister Tien Chung-kwang and ambassadors of allies Belize, St. Kitts and Nevis as well as St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chang said he is immensely proud to see Taiwan’s armed patrol vessel, which sailed as part of a Palauan patrol flotilla during the conference, take part in efforts to advance maritime security. He also expressed the government’s appreciation for the cutter’s successful completion of its mission.

In response, Obichang thanked Taiwan on behalf of the Western Pacific ally’s Vice President Jerrlyn Uduch Sengebau Senior for assisting Palau in staging the OOC, adding that the joint patrol flotilla is symbolic of the two countries’ strong friendship.

The Embassy of the ROC (Taiwan) in the Republic of Palau tweeted “The joint flag raising ceremony aboard CGA cutter #Tainan closed out #Taiwan’s #OurOcean Conference participation. We thank @Surangeljr & the people of #Palau for their warm friendship & hospitality. Together, we can advance the Areas of Action & create a prosperous future!”
