A charity concert benefiting Ukrainian refugees is set to be staged by Taiwan and Poland April 17 at the National Concert Hall in Taipei City, spotlighting the government’s commitment to spurring local interest in musical activities while conveying love from Taiwan for the East European country in its time of need.
Jointly organized by the Taipei Philharmonic Foundation for Culture and Education and Polish Office in Taipei with support from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture, the concert titled “Pray for Ukraine—Solidarity with Ukraine” will be conducted by Wu Yao-yu and feature performances by violinist Leta Chin; soprano Lin Ling-hui; baritone Chen Han-wei; and Taiwan-based Polish pianist Kamil Tokarski.
The program includes pieces from Ukrainian and Polish composers such as “Prelude Op.33 No.1” by Sergei Bortkiewicz; “Carpathian Rhapsody” by Myroslav Skoryk; “Overture” from opera “Taras Bulba” and “Prayer for Ukraine” by Mykola Lysenko; as well as “Andante Spianato et Grande Polonaise Brillante Op.22" by Frederic Chopin and “Polonaise Brillante in A Major” by Henryk Wieniawski.
According to the MOC, proceeds from the event will be donated by the MOFA for relief work to help Ukrainian refugees.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has caused extensive loss of life and property, destruction of cultural assets, and physical and mental trauma to the populace of the East European country, the MOC said. The concert is a prayer for world peace and a way to pass blessings from Taiwan to those suffering in the conflict, the ministry added.
Echoing the MOC’s remarks, POT said the concert aims to bring people together and inspire them to take concrete action aiding Ukrainians while cheering for the country and memorializing those lost in the war through music.
