Taiwan comics set to shine at Angouleme International Comics Festival
2022/03/21
The Taiwan Pavilion at the four-day Angouleme International Comics Festival in France, one of the largest such fairs in Europe, got underway March 17 as part of government efforts to raise the international profile of homegrown creators, according to the Taiwan Creative Content Agency.
The TAICCA-organized pavilion—titled “Be Brave”—spotlights the creative energy of a new generation of local graphic novelists.
According to TAICCA, the goal is to help Taiwan artists promote their work while organizing showcases for buyers and taking part in the Angouleme International Rights Market. A showreel of this year’s selected comic artist, an IP adaptation showreel and a multilingual “Taiwan Comic City” of animated audio manga will be on display at the event, the agency said, adding that the first English-French online Taiwan Pavilion launched for this year’s edition.
Local artists scheduled to appear at the event include Evergreen Yeh and Pam Pam Liu, as well as four residents at France-based comic studios—Adoor Yeh, Chen Pei-hsiu, Doz Lin and Ray He.
The annual Angouleme International Comics Festival was first held in 1974. It features competitions, exhibitions and trade shows for comic artists and publishers, attracting more than 200,000 visitors each year.
