VP Lai flies flag for Taiwan at Honduras presidential inauguration

Vice President Lai Ching-te attended the inauguration of Honduras President Xiomara Castro Jan. 27, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Central American Ally.
Special envoy of President Tsai Ing-wen, Lai congratulated Castro on behalf of the government and people. He praised Castro’s courage and perseverance as the first female president of her country, a distinction shared with Tsai.
Taiwan and Honduras will continue deepening bilateral friendship and expanding cooperation, Lai said. Such rock-solid relations will help accelerate progress and improve the welfare of people on both sides, he added.
In response, Castro said Taiwan’s long-standing support has been instrumental to the success of numerous domestic projects. It is anticipated that the two sides will enjoy a firm friendship going forward, she added.
Earlier in the day, Lai met with incoming Honduras Vice Presidents Salvador Nasralla and Doris Alejandrina Gutierrez to discuss future bilateral collaboration in agriculture, education, livestock, medical services and trade.
Lai also took the opportunity to express his sincere wish for the prosperity of the people of Honduras under the new administration’s leadership and an enduring partnership between Taiwan and the Central American ally.
