Taiwan is committed to strengthening its cooperation with France and other like-minded partners from the European Union in contributing to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific as well as development and prosperity around the world, according to President Tsai Ing-wen Dec. 16.
Over the last few years, Taiwan and France have enjoyed close cooperation in the fields of trade, disease prevention, technology and energy, Tsai said. Faced with the challenges of the post-pandemic era, there will be more opportunities for collaboration between the two countries in the areas of supply chain restructuring, information security and technological innovation, she added.
Tsai made the remarks while receiving a six-member French National Assembly delegation led by Francois de Rugy, chairman of the France-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Among the members of the delegation are Jean-Luc Reitzer, Frederique Dumas, Jean Francois Mbaye, Aina Kuric and Jean-Louis Bricout.
According to Tsai, this year has witnessed remarkable progress in the bilateral relationship. This is evidenced by the resolutions passed by the French Senate and National Assembly in support of Taiwan’s international participation earlier this year, she added.
Tsai took the opportunity to thank the visiting members of the delegation for supporting Taiwan and working to advance exchange between the two countries.
In response, de Rugy expressed hopes for deepening bilateral collaboration, especially in terms of economic cooperation, such as in the production of semiconductors and renewable energy, while jointly tackling challenges posed by climate change and the pandemic .
In a tweet on the official Twitter account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu said “The warmest of #Taiwan welcomes to the @AssembleeNat cross-party delegation from #France. We wish the group of like-minded lawmakers led by @FdeRugy & comprising @JL_Reitzer, @DumasFrederique, @JFMBAYE, @ainakuric & @jlbricout an enjoyable & fruitful 5-day fact-finding visit.” ”
