MOFA thanks President Biden for rock solid US support of Taiwan

Rock-solid U.S. support of Taiwan stated by President Joe Biden is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nov. 16.
In a White House readout issued following Biden’s virtual meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping earlier the same day, Biden reaffirmed U.S. commitment to a policy guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, Six Assurances and three Joint Communiques. The U.S. also strongly opposes unilateral efforts to change the status quo or undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, he said.
The MOFA thanked Biden for directly expressing U.S. commitment to Taiwan, adding that his comments echoed President Tsai Ing-wen’s consistent position on the need for unchanged cross-strait relations.
According to the ministry, the government will continue strengthening Taiwan’s self-defense capabilities while safeguarding the country’s freedoms and democratic way of life. At the same time, Taiwan will continue cooperating with like-minded partners such as the U.S. to maintain peace, stability and prosperity throughout the Indo-Pacific, the MOFA said.
Beijing is urged to accept its responsibilities, the ministry said, and work to resolve differences between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait through dialogue.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said: “Our gratitude to @POTUS for reaffirming rock-solid #US support of #Taiwan, maintaining commitments under the TRA & Six Assurances, & strongly opposing unilateral efforts to change the status quo or undermine peace & stability across the Taiwan Strait.”
