President Juan Orlando Hernandez, first lady Ana Garcia de Hernandez and the Honduras delegation touched down Nov. 12 at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport for the start of a three-day visit.
Welcomed at TTIA by Vice Foreign Minister Alexander Tah-ray Yui, the 11-member group also includes Foreign Minister Lisandro Rosales, Presidency Minister Ricardo Cardona, Finance Minister Luis Mata and Presidency Communications and Strategy Secretary Sandra Castillo.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the visit of the delegation from the country’s Central America ally Honduras is sincerely welcomed by the government and the people of Taiwan.
During the group’s stay, Hernandez will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and attend a banquet hosted by Tsai to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Taiwan-Honduras diplomatic relations. He will also observe the conferment ceremony of the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon for Rosales, tour the local office of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and join a dinner function hosted by the MOFA.
This is the fourth visit to Taiwan by Hernandez following ones as head of state in October 2016 and July 2015, and president of the National Congress in September 2000.
Since establishing official ties in 1941, Taiwan and Honduras have enjoyed close and extensive cooperation and exchanges spanning an array of areas such as agriculture, education, infrastructure, public health, trade and women’s empowerment, according to the MOFA.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the ministry said “The warmest of #Taiwan welcomes to @JuanOrlandoH, @anagarciacarias @lisandrorosales, @Presidencia_HN Minister Cardona, @SEFINHN Minister Mata & the #Honduras delegation. We wish our country's good friends from #CentralAmerica a pleasant, productive & rewarding 3-day visit."
