Tsai celebrates Taiwan Cultural Association centennial

President Tsai Ing-wen said Oct. 17 that Taiwan is leaving no stone unturned in bolstering the development of the country’s culture.
 
Over the past few years, the government has supported the development of cultural industries through the establishment of the Taiwan Creative Content Agency, Tsai said, adding that relevant regulations have also been amended to make the legal system for cultural governance more comprehensive.
 
Tsai made the remarks during a ceremony celebrating the centennial of the Taiwan Cultural Association in which she paid tribute to those who made contributions to the country’s cultural development in the past.
 
According to Tsai, the launch of TaiwanPlus, an English-language video and news platform, earlier this year serves as showcase for the achievements and diversity of Taiwan, while highlighting the country’s contributions to the international community. The platform harnesses the power of public resources in offering audiences worldwide a fresh perspective on the country.
 
Among the high-profile attendees were Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te; Cheng Li-chun, vice chairperson of the Taipei City-based General Association of Chinese Culture; and Lin Jin-chang, secretary-general of the GACC.
 
Established in 1921, the TCA was founded by Chiang Wei-shui in Taipei as a force for promoting local culture during the era of Japanese rule (1895-1945).
