2021/09/27
Taiwan comic artist Nigou was named winner of the Excellence Award at the 2021 Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair, according to the Ministry of Culture Sept. 22.
Nigou’s work was among a total of 2,632 submissions from 97 countries contending for top honors at this year’s edition of the prestigious KYOMAF in Japan. Running Sept. 18 to 19, the event included activities such as the awards ceremony, market and trade show.
According to the MOC, “Aquamation” by animator Amoon and “Fantasy Travels in Kyoto” by illustrator simiart—both from Taiwan—were shortlisted respectively for the CG anime and the illustration categories.
Nigou’s honor follows in the creative footsteps of fellow artist Gene’s Excellence Award in the illustration category for his work “On the Way to the Festival” and Grand Prize Award for “Guardian of the Scarecrow” at last year’s fair, the ministry said.
KYOMAF, launched in 2012, is one of the largest animation and comics events in western Japan. Its international competition is a must for aspiring artists and creators from around the globe seeking to make a professional debut.
