MOFA thanks Lithuania for 2nd donation of COVID-19 vaccines

2021/09/24

A donation of 235,900 COVID-19 vaccine doses to Taiwan announced Sept. 22 by Lithuania is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Baltic country was the first EU member state to donate vaccines to Taiwan when it announced a shipment of 20,000 doses in June, the MOFA said. Such an inspiring show of friendship touches hearts and gives confidence, the ministry added.

According to the MOFA, Taiwan and Lithuania are like-minded partners sharing the values of freedom, democracy and respect for human rights. Bilateral cooperation and exchanges across the areas of culture and economy are steadily increasing, the ministry said.

One example is the online business-to-business event staged Sept. 15 by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the MOFA said, adding that it involved 60-plus firms from both sides seeking to expand presences in respective potential-laden markets.

In addition, a government-organized trade and investment delegation will visit Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Lithuania next month to deepen business ties with the EU member states and build more resilient global supply chains, the ministry said.

Another example, the MOFA said, is the commitment of both sides to establishing reciprocal representative offices by year-end as part of joint efforts to strengthen cooperation across the board, especially in business, education, scientific research and tourism.

As a reliable and trustworthy partner in the democratic world, Taiwan will continue working with fellow force for good Lithuania in combating coronavirus while promoting peace, stability and shared prosperity, the ministry added.

In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the ministry said “More timely support from #Lithuania for #Taiwan! We sincerely thank @LithuaniaHealth & @LithuaniaMFA for arranging a 2nd generous donation of #COVID19 doses. We also thank @IngridaSimonyte for leading by example with her walk the talk approach to vaccine equity & solidarity.”
