MOFA thanks Japan for 5th donation of COVID-19 vaccines

A fifth donation totaling 500,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to Taiwan by Japan is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sept. 14.
 
The shipment was announced by Japan Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi earlier the same day, boosting the total number of doses contributed by Japan so far to 3.9 million, the MOFA said.
 
According to the MOFA, the timely deliveries are further proof of the long-standing friendship between Taiwan and Japan. These continued acts of generosity are greatly helping the country strengthen its response to the pandemic, the ministry added.
 
The two countries share the universal values of freedom and democracy, the MOFA said, adding that the government is committed to working with Japan to deepen cooperation in the field of public health to contain the spread of the disease while safeguarding the well-being of people on both sides.
 
The MOFA also took the opportunity to express appreciation for Japan’s resolution backing Taiwan’s inclusion in the World Health Organization passed by the House of Councillors June 11, as well as Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga’s support for Taiwan’s bid to participate in the World Health Assembly, the decision-making body of the WHO, during the Group of Seven summit June 11 to 13.
 
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said: “Our sincere gratitude to @moteging of @MofaJapan_jp for announcing #Japan’s donation of 500K #COVID19 vaccine doses to #Taiwan. This heartwarming gesture by the country’s #RealFriend again demonstrates the deep bonds shared by our people & strength of bilateral relations.”
