MOST co-stages 2nd Falling Walls Lab Taipei

2021/09/01

The second edition of Falling Walls Lab Taipei, a competition promoting the creation of innovative solutions to scientific and social problems, was held Aug. 31.

Staged by the Ministry of Science and Technology in partnership with German Institute Taipei and German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the daylong event at Taipei 101 involved young academics, entrepreneurs and experts.

According to the MOST, the event underscores the effectiveness of long-term Taiwan-Germany collaboration in key areas such as training and R&D. It is also in line with the government’s commitment to supporting the pursuit of excellence among university students in Taiwan, the ministry said.

The winner of the event is set to represent Taiwan at the global finals in Berlin this November. They will also be eligible to attend the Falling Walls Conference, which takes place annually to mark the fall of the Berlin Wall, and Innovation Week in collaboration with DAAD and prestigious German universities.

Organized by the Berlin-based Falling Walls Foundation, the annual Falling Walls Labs are science slams held around the world from March to October in which students, young professionals and junior scientists are given the opportunity to present their innovative ideas and research projects to the wider scientific community.
