Taiwan donates additional quake emergency supplies to Haiti

2021/08/30

The latest donation of post-earthquake emergency supplies from Taiwan was presented to officials from the Embassy of Haiti at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport in the northern city Aug. 26.

Coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in conjunction with the Red Cross Society of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation, the donation follows the recently delivered Love From Taiwan shipment of food products, oxygen concentrators, personal protective equipment, sleeping bags and surgical masks.

Presided over by MOFA Vice Minister Alexander Tah-ray Yui, the handover involved Charge d’Affaires Francilien Victorin; Wang Ching-feng, president of the local Red Cross; and Xiong Shi-min, deputy CEO of Tzu Chi.

In a statement, the MOFA said the latest donation consisting of approximately 18 tons of supplies, including cooling blankets, foldable beds, sleeping bags, surgical masks and tents, spotlights the close friendship between the two sides and the generosity of Taiwan Red Cross and Tzu Chi foundation.

Haiti is a key regional ally of Taiwan, and the countries enjoy solid relations, the MOFA said. No effort will be spared in coordinating public-private sector humanitarian assistance so as to ensure a swift return to everyday life for the Caribbean nation, the ministry added.

In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said “Vice Minister Yui & @AmbHaitiTaiwan Charge d'Affaires Victorin saw off a shipment of #LoveFromTaiwan post-quake supplies for #Haiti. Generously donated by @Taiwan_RedCross & #TzuChi Foundation, the 18 metric tons of emergency items will improve the lot of those most in need.”
