MOFA releases Q2 trade promotion report card
2021/08/17
Outstanding efforts by Taiwan’s representative offices helped significantly increase foreign trade and investment in the second quarter of 2021, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aug. 13.
Among the achievements is the 11th Taiwan-U.S. Trade and Investment Framework Agreement Council meeting staged in June, which paved the way for the two sides’ future cooperation in areas spanning electric vehicles, vaccine production and semiconductors, the MOFA said. The country’s representative offices in the U.S. also played a pivotal role in the passage of resolutions in support of a Taiwan-U.S. Bilateral Trade Agreement in 14 state legislatures, the ministry added.
Equally impressive is representative offices’ work to create more collaboration opportunities for Taiwan’s health and pharmaceutical industries, the MOFA said, adding that by participating in investment tours, promotional events, seminars and trade fairs like BIO International Convention, overseas offices are raising the profile of the country’s medical sector on the global stage.
Taiwan’s strong medical sector additionally helped bolster the global community’s response to COVID-19, the MOFA said, praising endeavors by embassies to connect ally governments with leading local companies. Such tie-ups were integral in assisting the Kingdom of Eswatini to establish surgical mask factories, facilitating purchases of locally manufactured medical products by Guatemala and Honduras and donating disease prevention materials to Marshall Islands and St. Vincent and Grenadines, it added.
The ministry also strived to highlight the country’s commitment to tackling climate change via green energy development. The government will continue working with allies and like-minded partners across a wide spectrum of fields including biomedicine, electric vehicles and renewable energy to strengthen the country’s economic and trade ties, the MOFA said.
