Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations Aug. 15, a milestone underscoring the strength of friendship and exchanges between the countries.

In a special video message released in the run-up to the event, Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu said for decades Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines have cooperated extensively in key areas such as agriculture, education, infrastructure, public health and technology.

Numerous joint undertakings bear testament to the robust partnership, Wu said, citing the Argyle International Airport and Rabacca Bridge projects inaugurated in 2017 and 2007, respectively. Both have greatly facilitated transportation in the Caribbean country, he added.

The government is deeply committed to strengthening people-to-people ties between Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Wu said, adding that this is illustrated by Taiwan and TaiwanICDF Scholarships offered to 200-plus young Vincentians.

Established in 1996 under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taipei City-based International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) is dedicated to achieving socioeconomic progress, enhancing human resources and promoting economic activity in diplomatic allies and partner nations.

Wu also took the opportunity to thank St. Vincent and the Grenadines for staunchly supporting Taiwan’s participation in the global arena. It is hoped that on the back of ongoing collaboration, bilateral relations will continue going from strength to strength in the years to come, he said.

According to the MOFA, a celebratory photo exhibition is underway at the country’s embassy in Kingstown—capital of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It details highlights of two-way ties, including cooperation projects and reciprocal visits by political figures, as well as scholarships and talent exchange programs.

The MOFA said the exhibition dovetails with a series of short films showcasing free, friendly and prosperous relations between the countries released by the embassy of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in Taiwan via various social media platforms.

In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said “On Aug. 15, 2021, #Taiwan & #StVincentAndTheGrenadines mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations. We congratulate our true friends & partners in prosperity on this milestone. Watch Minister Wu’s special address & learn why bilateral ties are built to last.”
