A total of seven productions from Taiwan are set to screen at the upcoming Asian American International Film Festival, according to the Ministry of Culture Aug. 7.
The Taiwan lineup for the 44th AAIFF includes feature-length dramas “The Terrorizers” by director Edward Yang, which was named Best Feature Film at the 1986 Golden Horse Film Festival; “Taipei Suicide Story” by director KEFF, which was an official Cinefondation selection at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival and winner of the Narrative Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the 2021 Slamdance Film Festival; and “Mickey on the Road” by Lu Mian-mian, which was shown at the 2021 Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.
Other Taiwan pieces in this year’s AAIFF are short films “Black Kite” by Lee I-hui, “Kuroshio Current” by Lai Kun-yu, “Hello From Taiwan” by Tiffany Frances and “Piglet Piglet” by Lin Tsung-yen.
The productions were selected for their moving depictions of the loss and renewal of human connection amid the urban environments of Taiwan, China and the U.S.
Organized by Asian Cinevision, AAIFF is the first and longest-running festival in the U.S. dedicated to promoting independent Asian and Asian-American movies. This year’s edition running Aug. 11 to 22 is set to screen over 20 feature films and more than 60 shorts.
