Taiwan new media artist Huang Hsin-chein is set to present his first solo exhibition in Spain at the chapel of the Revillagigedo Palace, Gijon, according to the Ministry of Culture July 20.
Jointly hosted by the MOC and the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain, “A Gateway to Memory w/ Laurie Anderson” is presented in celebration of the 15th edition of the LEV (Visual Electronics Laboratory) festival running July 22-25.
According to the MOC, three of the artist’s most iconic works: "La Camera Insabiatta," 2017; "To the Moon," 2018; and "Bodyless," 2019, will be featured. The pieces are also the only virtual reality works showcased at this year’s festival, the ministry added.
Huang specializes in mixed media, using science and technology to bring his creations to life, the MOC said. He has received multiple international awards, including Best VR Experience at the 74th Venice International Film Festival for "La Camera Insabiatta", which he co-created with Laurie Anderson, and Best VR Story Award at Cannes XR for his latest creation “Samsara Ep.1.”
Founded by curators Cristina de Silva and Nacho de la Vega, the LEV festival is a leading digital art celebration in Spain that attracts over 10,000 visitors each year. A total of 17 programs from France, Italy, Japan, Slovenia, Spain and Taiwan will be presented this year.
