Taiwan Audio Comic Expo kicks off in Tokyo
2021/07/06
Comics drawn by homegrown artists are the star attraction at the Taiwan Audio Comic Expo in Tokyo, part of a series of events aimed at boosting cultural ties with Japan, according to the Ministry of Culture July 2.
A total of 10 artists from Taiwan were invited to create works that express gratitude to Japan for recent donations of COVID-19 vaccines, the MOC said. The event follows an exhibition held in Taipei earlier this year organized by the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association on the 10th anniversary of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake giving thanks to the people of Taiwan for their kindness in the wake of the disaster, the ministry added.
High-profile participants at the opening ceremony included Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Japan Representative Frank Hsieh and Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association Representative Mikio Numata.
During his address, Hsieh said the recent vaccine donation from Japan is sincerely appreciated by the government and people of Taiwan. Exhibitions and other cultural exchanges between the two sides will ensure that the spirit of friendship continues to be passed down from one generation to the next, he added.
Running until Aug. 20 and jointly organized by Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo and Taiwan Creative Content Agency, the exhibition is part of ongoing efforts by the two organizations to foster cooperation between professionals in the countries’ creative industries.
