MOFA offers condolences over tornado in Czech Republic

The government and people of Taiwan extend their condolences to the Czech Republic over a rare tornado that struck the region of South Moravia in the central European country’s southeast, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs June 25.
Following the instructions of President Tsai Ing-wen, Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu personally conveyed Taiwan’s sincere sympathies to Czech Senate President Milos Vystrcil and Patrick Rumlar, head of the Czech Economic and Cultural Office Taipei, the MOFA said.
Taiwan stands ready to provide recovery and reconstruction assistance in affected areas if needed, the MOFA said. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Prague has been instructed to express its condolences to local authorities, the ministry added.
In a tweet on the MOFA’s official Twitter account, Wu said: “I called CECO Rep. Rumlar & @SenatCZ President @Vystrcil_Milos after learning of the devastating tornado & expressed my condolences on behalf of the government & people. Taiwan is ready to assist its friend the Czech Republic if requested.”
