Taiwan, EU, US, Japan stage tech supply chain partnership forum

2021/06/24

A virtual forum on supply chain partnership was staged by Taiwan, the EU, U.S. and Japan June 22, underscoring the like-minded partners’ commitment to enhancing cooperation among key stakeholders in the global technology sector.

Organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, European Economic and Trade Office, American Institute in Taiwan and Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, the daylong event involved participants sharing best practices and identifying the dynamics of global value chains.

High-profile attendees included MOEA Minister Wang Mei-hua, EETO head Filip Grzegorzewski, AIT Director Brent Christensen, JTEA Deputy Representative Hoshino Mitsuaki and decision-makers from academia, government, industry and research institutes.

According to Wang, COVID-19 highlights the importance of global supply chain efficiency and resilience. As an internationally recognized advocate of freedom, democracy and rules-based order, Taiwan is a trusted partner of high-tech sectors worldwide and is working with its friends in strengthening global supply chains, she said.

In response, Grzegorzewski spotlighted the fact that no single economy can produce everything it needs, and the common interests of Taiwan, the EU, U.S. and Japan are best served by ensuring allies and partners have resilient supply chains.

Echoing Grzegorzewski’s remarks, Christensen said Taiwan is the hub for international trade in information and communication technology products, with its semiconductor industry the envy of the world. Springboarding off a previous event on supply chain restructuring, the forum broke new ground by exploring related bilateral, regional and global policymaking and commercial opportunities, he added.

In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said “#Taiwan, the #EU, #US & #Japan are strengthening the efficiency & resilience of global #SupplyChains. Great to see MOEA Minister Wang, @grzegorzewskif, AIT Director Christensen & JETA Deputy Rep. Hoshino enhancing cooperation at the Forum on Tech Supply Chain Partnership.”
