Honduras Government will Export Cantaloupe to Taiwan and Japan

The Ministry of Agriculture in Honduras, Mr. Jacobo Regalado, has recently signed a cooperation agreement with private sector exporter, Agropecuaria Montelíbano, in which the Honduran Ministry of Agriculture will provide the technology of removing fruit flies and other parasites on cantaloupe to the private sector, in order to facilitate the exporting of these melons by the private industry to Taiwan and Japan. On site witnesses to the agreement include Honduran ambassador to Japan, Ms. Marlene Villela. The technological cooperation program will cost an estimated 120,000 Lempiras. The private company is the largest agricultural company in Honduras, creating approximately 23,000 jobs in Honduras last year, and indirect employment of 45,000, with annual exports of melons of approximately 18 million boxes.
