CECC announces 2-week extension of Taiwan’s level 3 COVID-19 alert

2021/06/09

The Cabinet-level Central Epidemic Command Center announced a two-week extension of Taiwan’s countrywide level three COVID-19 alert June 7, spotlighting continued government efforts to contain the spread of the disease.

The measures, first implemented last month, are to be extended to June 28 following consistent community transmission of coronavirus, the CECC said.

Under level three, masks remain mandatory outside the home. Individuals should monitor their health and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms develop.

Business venues must enforce crowd and flow control as well as the wearing of masks and the implementation of social distancing, while workplaces need to comply with the regulations laid out in the Guidelines for Enterprise Planning of Business Continuity in Response to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 including measures such as splitting operations between multiple offices and facilitating remote working.

Food and beverage vendors can only offer takeout services, while stores and supermarkets must also bolster crowd control measures. Members of the public are urged to make fewer and only essential visits to these places.

Social gatherings involving over five people indoors or 10 people outdoors from different households, including weddings, funerals and religious events are prohibited. The public should avoid all unnecessary activities.

Leisure and entertainment venues, sports and exhibition locations, places of worship and educational facilities must stay closed and those that have been shuttered cannot resume operations. Violations will result in penalties for business owners, customers and staffers.

Visits to hospitals and long-term care facilities are suspended, and only one person is allowed to accompany a patient. Residents in long-term care facilities should avoid going out, unless under special circumstances, while measures such as strengthened access control and temperature and health monitoring among caregivers, residents and staffers must be strictly implemented.

Latest Central Epidemic Command Center statistics confirm 11,694 COVID-19 cases and 308 deaths in Taiwan.
