Taiwan illustrator wins BolognaRagazzi Award
2021/06/04
Taiwan illustrator Lin Lian-en was named as the winner of the BolognaRagazzi Award in the fiction category, according to the Ministry of Culture June 2.
Lin’s book “Home” was among a total of 1,577 from 41 countries contending for top honors at the Bologna Children's Book Fair in Italy.
With the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrating that residences are the most important places in people’s lives, Lin’s book thoughtfully considers the concept of space using a range of materials, encouraging endless revisits just like a welcoming home, the jury said.
The honor was announced following a special mention for Taiwan illustrator and author Animo Chen’s collection of illustrated poems entitled “Love Letter,” the MOC said.
According to the MOC, Lin excels in mixed media pieces incorporating acrylic, watercolor crayon and collage. Her work has previously won the U.S.-based 3x3 International Illustration Award in 2014, illustration awards at the 2015 and 2018 editions of BCBF and the first prize inliterature for children and young adults at 2021 Taipei International Book Exhibition, the ministry added.
Launched in 1963, BCBF is one of the most important international events dedicated to children’s publishing and the multimedia industry. Its BolognaRagazzi Award is a highly coveted prize aimed at selecting the best illustrated books.
