Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu accepted a copy of the credentials of Roudy Stanley Penn, new ambassador of Haiti to the ROC (Taiwan), while exchanging views on a variety of issues pertaining to bilateral relations, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs May 19.
Wu, who extended a warm welcome to Penn, said he looks forward to working with the Caribbean ally’s ambassador in deepening friendship and expanding exchanges between the two countries. He also took the opportunity to convey the sincere appreciation of the government and people for the staunch support for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations shown by Haiti.
In response, Penn said Taiwan is an important ally of Haiti, adding that President Jovenel Moise highly values the countries’ friendship.
Penn said he would leave no stone unturned in bolstering cooperation between the two sides during his tenure while continuing to champion Taiwan’s meaningful international participation.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said: “Minister Wu was pleased to meet with Roudy Stanley Penn & accept the copy of his credentials as #Haiti's new ambassador to #Taiwan. We wish our friend from the #Caribbean all the best & anticipate bilateral ties further strengthening under his watch. Thank you for the visit!”
Penn has previously served as political consultant for Haiti's Ministry of Justice and Public Security, spokesperson for the Haitian electoral council and general manager of public relations company Politico Tech.
According to the MOFA, Haiti is a vital ally in the Caribbean and has been a rock-solid supporter of Taiwan in the international arena. The countries share a long history of fruitful collaboration in projects spanning agriculture, energy, food security and public health.
