NPM mobile educational kit wins big at iF Design Award

2021/04/19

A set of five mobile teaching kits designed by the National Palace Museum and Taipei City-based Bright Ideas for Life Co. took home a service design prize at iF Design Award 2021 April 12, spotlighting the state-run facility’s efforts to promote appreciation of the arts among the next generation.

NPM’s entry was among a total of nearly 10,000 submissions from 52 countries and territories contending for top honors at the competition.

In a statement, the NPM said the kits provide remote rural schools with direct access to educational programs based on the museum’s collection. They include physical teaching aids and hands-on digital interactive contents in line with the 12-year basic education curriculum guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education, the museum added.

According to the NPM, the teaching kits have already been employed at 15 schools around Taiwan and featured in 21 education promotion activities in 2020.

International Forum Design, aims to evaluate and recognize design entries based on the criteria of impact, differentiation, function, idea and form, in that order. Winners are selected in nine disciplines, namely architecture, communication, interior architecture, packaging design, product design, professional concept, service design, user experience and user interface.

Established in 1965, the NPM is home to the world’s largest collection of Chinese imperial art spanning 7,000 years from the prehistoric Neolithic period to the end of the Qing dynasty. The institution opened a second branch in southern Taiwan’s Chiayi County in December 2015 showcasing artifacts from diverse Asian civilizations.
