MOFA thanks US for support of Taiwan’s international participation

A virtual forum held in support of Taiwan’s international participation March 30 is deeply appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
 
Hosted by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S. and American Institute in Taiwan, the forum was held to discuss strategies for expanding Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations on critical issues such as civil aviation, climate change, global public health, transnational crime and other areas of mutual concern.
 
MOFA Secretary General Lily L. W. Hsu and TECRO Deputy Representative Wang Liang-yu took part alongside officials from the U.S., including Brent Christensen, director of AIT; Jeffrey Prescott, deputy to the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations; Erica Barks-Ruggles, State Department senior bureau official for international organizations; Jonathan Fritz, deputy assistant secretary for East Asia Pacific affairs; as well as Deputy Assistant Secretaries for International Organizations Nerissa Cook and Jane Rhee.
 
Addressing the forum, Hsu thanked the U.S. for its rock-solid friendship and staunch support. The government remains committed to working together with the U.S. and other like-minded countries in the spirit of pragmatism, professionalism and making substantial contributions to the international community, she said.
 
U.S. participants applauded Taiwan’s successful management of COVID-19 and its ability to tackle global challenges through multilateral collaboration, according to a statement released by AIT.
