CECC eases restrictions on foreign travelers to Taiwan

2021/02/26

A partial lifting of regulations enabling foreign visitors to enter or transit Taiwan was announced Feb. 24 by the Central Epidemic Command Center.

Beginning March 1, nonnationals with ROC (Taiwan) residency can enter the country without restrictions, the CECC said. In addition, nonresident foreigners are eligible to apply for a special entry permit covering purposes other than sightseeing and social visits, the center added.

According to the CECC, transits can take place at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport as long as they involve interairline group connections with a maximum stopover of eight hours. Passengers are required to sit in an onboard segregated area before deplaning with escort to specially designated areas at TTIA, the center said.

Travelers need to present a negative real-time polymerase chain reaction test for coronavirus issued within three working days of scheduled departure, the CECC said, adding that those entering Taiwan must sign an affidavit on the government’s Quarantine System for Entry disclosing the location of mandatory 14-day stays.

According to the CECC, foreign nationals—as well as accompanying family members and caretakers—seeking essential medical services can apply for special permission through medical care providers.

In a news release issued the same day, the center said business travelers from low- and medium-risk countries qualifying to enter Taiwan and planning to stay less than three months are eligible for shortened quarantine periods upon application.

The easing is in line with government efforts to safeguard the health and well-being of the people while transitioning toward the resumption of normal cross-border business activities, the CECC said. Adjustments will be made to pandemic management measures with respect to the latest developments in the COVID-19 situation at home and abroad, the center added.
