2021/02/09
Vice President Lai Ching-te commended a long-term eldercare facility in Taoyuan City Feb. 5 for its exemplary efforts in implementing disease control measures amid a recent COVID-19 cluster infection in the northern Taiwan metropolis.
In addition to praising the home’s operating procedures during his tour of the facility, Lai applauded strict self-health management measures followed by staff and comprehensive stock of critical supplies provided by the municipal Department of Social Welfare.
Based on overseas coronavirus outbreaks, residents of assisted living facilities and nursing homes are especially susceptible to the virus, the vice president said. Such diligence helps safeguard one of Taiwan’s most vulnerable populations, he added.
According to Lai, the visit was also aimed at lending support to Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan and his team, who have worked tirelessly with the Central Epidemic Command Center to contain the recent COVID-19 outbreak at the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Taoyuan General Hospital.
Every person in the country plays an important role in the fight against coronavirus, Lai said, adding that solidarity is the key to defeating the disease.
Latest CECC statistics reveal 928 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Taiwan and nine deaths, with 71 patients still receiving treatment at hospitals countrywide.
