Tsai salutes sacrifices of Taiwan’s military ahead of Lunar New Year

President Tsai Ing-wen said Feb. 4 that the ROC (Taiwan) armed forces are playing an invaluable role in safeguarding the people and defending the country’s democratic way of life.
The selfless sacrifices of Taiwan’s fighting men and women have provided the security necessary for the country to develop and prosper, Tsai said. Under this blanket of protection, the people feel safe and can go about daily life with confidence and happiness, she added.
Tsai made the remarks while delivering Lunar New Year wishes in her capacity as commander in chief to troops serving with the air force’s Air Defense and Artillery 612nd Battalion, as well as the army’s 117th Infantry Brigade and 564th Armored Brigade, in southern Taiwan’s Kaohsiung City.
According to Tsai, the units are exemplars of the military’s deeply entrenched culture of courage, dedication and honor. She singled out the 564th for special mention, citing members’ fulfillment of critical missions like protecting radar stations, carrying out relief operations in times of civil emergencies, and performing charity work and helping those in need while off-duty.
Tsai also took the opportunity to receive briefings and observe various exercises spanning combat casualty treatment, rescue and relief, missile readiness and rifle marksmanship. It is the sincere hope of the government and people of Taiwan that all personnel and their families enjoy a safe and prosperous Year of the Ox, she said.
