President Tsai lauds Taiwan’s military intelligence officers

2021/02/04

President Tsai Ing-wen praised members of Taiwan’s military intelligence units Feb. 2 for their efforts in safeguarding the country against authoritarian threats.

The security briefings she regularly receives at the Presidential Office in Taipei City are key to ensuring national security, Tsai said. Detailed analysis on regional developments in the reports reflects the expert training of Taiwan’s intelligence officers, she added.

Although the hard work of such personnel is rarely made public given its confidential nature, Tsai said the government and people truly appreciate the dedication of all those involved.

The president made the remarks during a visit to an intelligence research center under the Office of the Deputy Chief of the General Staff for Intelligence at the Ministry of National Defense in Taipei during a well-wishing tour ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays, which commence Feb. 10 this year.

According to Tsai, the center was expanded last month as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Taiwan’s armed forces. The government will continue enhancing military training, she said, adding that she has every confidence in the combat readiness of the country’s fighting men and women.

Tsai also took the opportunity to offer her gratitude to the family members of service personnel for their sacrifice in being apart from loved ones during one of the most important holidays of the year.
