Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu accepted a copy of the credentials of Herve Denis, new ambassador of Haiti to the ROC (Taiwan), while exchanging views on a variety of issues pertaining to bilateral relations, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jan. 18.
Wu, who extended a warm welcome to Denis, said he looks forward to working with the Caribbean ally’s ambassador in deepening friendship and expanding exchanges between the two countries. He also took the opportunity to convey the sincere appreciation of the government and people for the staunch support for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations shown by President Jovenel Moise and Haiti.
In response, Denis said Taiwan is an important ally of Haiti and expressed gratitude for its efforts in proposing and implementing projects promoting sustainable development and the welfare of the people.
Denis said he would leave no stone unturned in boosting cooperation between the two sides during his tenure, adding that lucrative trade opportunities lie in public-private partnerships capitalizing on Haiti’s proximity to the U.S.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said “Minister Wu was pleased to meet with Herve Denis & accept the copy of his credentials as #Haiti’s new ambassador to #Taiwan. We wish our friend from the #Caribbean all the very best & expect bilateral ties to continue strengthening under his watch. Thank you for the visit!”
Denis is a senior diplomat previously posted to Canada, Dominican Republic, Germany, Switzerland and the U.S. He also served as minister of defense, labor and social affairs, as well as president of the Chamber of Commerce of Haiti during which he visited Taiwan three times.
Former Haiti Ambassador Rachel Coupaud served eight years in the post. Last November, she was awarded the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon in recognition of her contribution to strengthening Taiwan-Haiti relations.
