VP Lai vows to advance AI, Blockchain technologies
2021/01/08
The government is committed to advancing Taiwan’s artificial intelligence and Blockchain technologies by cultivating talent, encouraging innovation, staying on top of emerging trends and supplying funding, according to Vice President Lai Ching-te Jan. 6.
AI and Blockchain developments are expected to greatly boost the country’s tech industry and bring significant business opportunities, Lai said, adding that combining the two technologies will multiply the benefits.
Lai made the remarks during the 4th Hit AI and Blockchain Summit in Taipei City.
According to Lai, Taiwan will secure a key position in the new smart era on the strength of the country’s information and communication technology and the competitive edge of its 1.3 million small and medium-sized enterprises.
The government is additionally sparing no effort to promote openness and transparency of data collected via smart applications, Lai said, adding that this is evidenced by the country’s number one rank in the Global Open Data Index published by U.K.-based Open Knowledge International in 2015. The National Development Council is also working on making data relevant to air pollution, disease prevention and spending more available to the public, he said.
Among other measures in the works are the loosening of laws and regulations to encourage younger generations to take part in smart industries and support for domestic start-ups through initiatives like the NDC’s business angel investment program, the vice president said, adding that the government will continue working with businesses to bring a brighter future for Taiwan.
